Disclaimer
Vehicle information and valuations provided by VINLytix are estimates. Here is exactly what this service is not.
The single most important sentence on this site
No record found does not guarantee that an event never occurred.
A vehicle may have been in an unreported accident, had undocumented repairs, or carry a history that never reached any database. A VINLytix report describes what the sources it checked actually say. It cannot describe what those sources do not know, and it will never present silence as good news.
Not a mechanical inspection
VINLytix has never seen the vehicle. It cannot detect rust, accident damage, worn components, fluid leaks, a failing transmission or deferred maintenance. Only a qualified mechanic with the car on a lift can tell you about condition. Commission one before any private purchase.
Not a guarantee of condition
Nothing in a report constitutes a warranty or guarantee about a vehicle's condition, safety, reliability or fitness for any purpose.
Not a complete vehicle history report
Unless a licensed history provider is explicitly connected and stated as active on the report, VINLytix does not check accident records, insurance claims, title brands, salvage or flood history, odometer records, ownership history or auction records. Every report says so in its own section.
Not a title or lien verification
VINLytix cannot tell you who legally owns a vehicle, whether the title is branded, or whether money is owed against it. A vehicle with outstanding finance can be repossessed from you after you have paid for it. Verify the title and run a lien check independently.
Not an appraisal
Where available, valuations are market estimates for a vehicle of a given specification, age and mileage. They are not a determination of what a specific vehicle is worth in its actual condition, and they are not prepared by a licensed appraiser.
Not financial or legal advice
Nothing on this site is financial, legal, insurance or professional advice. Decisions about purchasing, selling, pricing, financing or insuring a vehicle are yours.
Estimates are estimates
Every figure VINLytix produces — market values, the Deal Score, mileage comparisons, Data Coverage — is an estimate or a heuristic. The Deal Score in particular is a presentation device for comparing listings; it has not been validated against transaction outcomes and we make no claim that it predicts them. The full methodology is published so you can judge the reasoning for yourself.
Data may be incomplete or wrong
VINLytix depends on third-party sources, principally NHTSA. Coverage varies by manufacturer and model year. Data may be missing, delayed or incorrect at source. A sparse report reflects sparse data rather than a problem with the vehicle — which is precisely why every report carries a Data Coverage percentage.
Recall data has a specific limitation
Recall campaigns are matched by year, make and model, not by individual VIN. A campaign appearing in your report does not establish that the specific vehicle is unrepaired, and an empty result does not establish that it has no outstanding work. Only the manufacturer or a franchised dealer can confirm repair status for one VIN.
Always verify independently
Before money changes hands on any used vehicle:
- obtain a full vehicle history report from a licensed provider;
- commission an independent pre-purchase mechanical inspection;
- verify the title is present, unbranded and in the seller’s name;
- check for outstanding finance or liens;
- confirm the VIN matches in every location on the vehicle and on the paperwork.
VINLytix is designed to help you decide which vehicles are worth that effort. It is not a replacement for any of it.
Independence
VINLytix is an independent service, not affiliated with, endorsed by, or acting on behalf of NHTSA or any other government agency, any vehicle manufacturer, or any dealership.
