Legal
Terms of Use
Last updated: these terms describe the service as currently built. They should be reviewed by a qualified legal professional before commercial launch, and adapted to the operating entity and governing jurisdiction.
1. Acceptance
By using VINLytix you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, do not use the service.
2. What the service is
VINLytix produces informational reports about vehicles from a Vehicle Identification Number, using publicly available official data and — where connected — licensed commercial data providers. Reports are provided for general informational purposes.
3. What the service is not
VINLytix is expressly not, and must not be relied upon as:
- a mechanical inspection or any assessment of a vehicle’s physical condition;
- a guarantee of a vehicle’s condition, safety, history or fitness for purpose;
- a complete vehicle history report;
- a title search, lien search or verification of legal ownership;
- an appraisal, or a determination of the value of any specific vehicle;
- financial, legal, insurance or professional advice of any kind.
See the full disclaimer, which forms part of these terms.
4. No warranty
The service is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including any implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy or non-infringement.
VINLytix depends on third-party data sources. We do not warrant that reports are accurate, complete, current or uninterrupted. Data may be incomplete, delayed or incorrect at source, and vehicles may have a history that has never reached any database.
5. Your responsibilities
You are responsible for independently verifying any information before acting on it. Before any vehicle purchase you should obtain a full vehicle history report, commission an independent mechanical inspection, verify the title and check for outstanding finance.
You agree not to:
- use the service for any unlawful purpose;
- attempt to circumvent rate limits, or use automated means to make bulk requests;
- scrape, republish, resell or systematically extract content or report data;
- use the service to harass, stalk or investigate an individual;
- attempt to gain unauthorised access to any part of the service or its infrastructure.
6. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, VINLytix and its operators are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for any loss of profits, revenue, data or opportunity, arising out of or in connection with your use of the service or reliance on any report.
This includes, without limitation, any loss arising from purchasing, declining to purchase, selling or pricing a vehicle on the basis of a VINLytix report.
Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited.
7. Third-party data and independence
Vehicle specification and safety recall data are provided by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration through its public APIs. VINLytix is an independent service and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or acting on behalf of NHTSA, any other government agency, any vehicle manufacturer, or any dealership.
Third-party data is subject to those parties’ own terms and accuracy. We are not responsible for errors originating in a third-party source.
8. Intellectual property
The VINLytix name, logo, interface, written content and the design of its scoring and reporting are the property of VINLytix. Underlying government data is not claimed as ours. You may print and share reports for your own personal, non-commercial use.
9. Availability and changes
We may modify, suspend or discontinue any part of the service at any time. Data sources may be added or removed; the Data Sources page reflects what is active. The methodology behind scores may change; material changes will be reflected on the Methodology page.
10. Privacy
Use of the service is also governed by our Privacy Policy.
